Introducing DV Labs
19 Aug 2024
Today we are excited to introduce DV Labs, one of the founding DV client teams in the Obol Collective. Formerly known as Obol Labs, we are a remote software development team building cryptographic infrastructure software for public blockchain networks like Ethereum. Since inception we have been focused on the research, implementation, and adoption of distributed validators. Our mission is to boost the security, resilience, and decentralisation of Ethereum.
From Charon to the Collective
With the vision of enabling Ethereum validators to remain trust-minimised and credibly neutral, Collin Myers and Oisín Kyne founded Obol Labs over three years ago. Our mission was to build the first composable distributed validator implementation for Ethereum infrastructure operators, which led to the creation of the DV middleware client, Charon.
After three years of R&D, growing the team to 30+ members, and collaboration with more than 1000 solo and professional operators, Charon has been integrated into Ethereum’s largest staking and restaking pools.
The Obol Collective was established to formalise the collection of tools, teams, and individuals committed to scaling and decentralising Ethereum through the adoption of DVs. With the creation of the Obol Collective, we are transitioning to focus on its more specific purpose as a software development team focused on building out Charon, adjacent technologies like the DV Protocol, the DV Launchpad, SDK and API, and operating validator infrastructure for Ethereum’s largest networks. This renewed focus also enables the team to explore additional applications and use cases for distributed validators and its underlying technologies. The focus on the technology of distributed validators is why we rebranded to DV Labs.
